IV Therapy 101

What Exactly is IV Therapy?

Here at New Beginnings Medical, we offer a wide range of services to our patients. As a Florida medical spa with locations all over the Sunshine State, we have been able to help thousands of people improve their appearance and achieve their weight loss goals through the use of our hCG diet program. However, the hCG diet program is not the only service that we offer to help people to look and feel better. Another service that we offer, and one of our favorites to talk about, is IV therapy. In the first of a multi-part blog series we are going to go over exactly what IV therapy is, what it can be used for, and the types of IV therapy options that we offer at New Beginnings Medical. IV Therapy is More Than a Hangover Cure

For decades, IV therapy has been used in hospitals to treat a range of conditions ranging from dehydration to nutrient-absorption disorders. Recently, IV therapy is offered at many independent medical clinics and certain house-call services that provide people with this therapy option without clogging up already full emergency departments in hospitals. While the most common belief surrounding IV therapy is that it is used as a way to treat hangovers, the therapy can actually treat many more conditions. Below, we have listed the three most common types of IV therapy that are currently available to patients.

  • Fluids: One of the most common IV therapies, and the one that most people are familiar with, is the delivery of fluids through the use of an IV. These fluids often contain vitamins suspended in a saline solution that, when administered, is absorbed quickly by the bloodstream.
  • Drugs: Another common form of IV therapy is the use of IV fluids to deliver drugs to a patient. If you have ever watched a medical show or been in the hospital yourself, you are probably familiar with this type of IV therapy.
  • Blood Transfusions: While not a type of IV therapy that we offer here at New Beginnings Medical, blood transfusions are still a very common form of IV therapy. Blood transfusions can be necessary for multiple reasons, however, they are most commonly administered when a person has lost a large amount of their own blood as a result of an injury or surgery.

As you can see, IV therapy is about so much more than delivering fluids to people suffering from hangovers. At our clinic, we utilize IV therapy to help our patients feel more energized, fight off illness, slow down aging, and just generally feel better.
