Don’t Let Your Weight Beat You

Hello, dear reader, and welcome back to our blog. If you have been keeping up with our posts, you are well aware of the fact that we here at New Beginnings Medical are in the business of helping people look and feel their best. Whether we want to accept this fact or not, our outward appearance is important. When people see you for the first time or they must interact with you on a daily basis, one of the first things they notice about you is your appearance. While there is a lot of societal influence surrounding this “judgement” it really comes about because humans, by nature, are visual creatures. Our eyes are our main point of information regarding the world around us and, as a result, we have become quite obsessed with the appearance of the people and things around us. In today’s post, we are going to pick up where we left off last time and continue to cover some of the reasons that people find it so difficult to lose weight. If you haven’t read our previous post, we suggest that you go back and do so before reading this one because it contains a lot of information that relates to this post. If you have already read our previous post, continue reading below to learn more about the reasons losing weight can be so difficult.

Change is Difficult

Everyone knows that change is difficult. Humans are creatures of habit and once you get used to doing things a certain way it can be difficult to break away and try to do something different. This is especially true in relation to weight loss because eating habits and activity levels are two of the most difficult aspects of life for a person to attempt to change. Luckily, change is not impossible. With a little effort, most people find that building new habits is simply a matter of dedicating themselves to achieving a goal and not straying from that goal when things get tough. While these two aspects are some of the most major reasons that people find it difficult to lose weight, they are not the only reasons that people struggle to shed pounds. Below, we have listed out a few more reasons why people may find it hard to achieve their weight loss goals.

  • Surroundings: In some cases, a person is not able to control their surroundings. If they work in an office, they may be tempted by donuts, vending machines full of unhealthy snacks, or coworkers bringing in junk food and trying to get them to partake in them. While it might not be easy to control your environment when you are out and about in the world, you can control your environment when you are at home. If you are serious about losing weight, you need to take the time to make sure that your home is set up to help foster an environment where weight loss is a primary focus. To do this, you need to surround yourself with things that will support you in your efforts to get healthy. Get rid of any junk food that might tempt you during a moment of weakness and consider investing in some home workout equipment, even if it is something as simple as a yoga mat, so that you feel motivated to stick to your plan to lose weight.
  • Support System: One of the biggest mistakes we see people make when they are trying to lose weight is not having a support system around them to help them achieve the task. While it is true that weight loss is a personal journey, it does not hurt to have people around you that want to see you succeed and will help you when things get tough. At the very least, you should make sure that your friends, family, your spouse understand that you are trying to lose weight. If they know that you are trying to achieve a goal, they can help to motivate you when things get tough, help you stick to your diet plan, and just generally be a support system for when you are feeling less than excited about sticking to your plan. If you find that the people around you are less than supportive, try to find a group of people who want to see you succeed. Perhaps these people are co-workers or members of your gym, perhaps they are a group of online supporters that are trying to achieve the same thing you are. Whatever the case, a support system will make your weight loss journey that much easier to accomplish.
  • Your Goals: For the most part, it is easy to set goals. You simply figure out what you want to do and work towards achieving it. Unfortunately, many people don’t understand that goals need to set with certain expectations. Don’t set the goal of losing 100 pounds in three months. Instead, set a goal that you are going to try to lose a certain amount of weight every two weeks until you achieve the 100-pound mark. Breaking large goals down into smaller goals makes them much easier to accomplish because hitting multiple goals is much more of a motivational tool than trying to hit a single, large goal.
